The students worked hard today to deepen their understanding of equations and to practice creating equivalent equations. They modelled equations with cubes (to represent numbers) and paper bags (to represent variables). Then they played a co-operative game in pairs that challenged them to create equivalent equations containing a specific number. It was wonderful to hear the students explaining their ideas to one another!
I will let the boys and girls in grade six know later this week that they will be having a math test on patterns and equations on Thursday, October 30th. We will have a class of review stations that the students can rotate through on Monday, and I will provide time in class on Tuesday to work on the chapter review or enrichment activities. If you want to practice with your son or daughter at home, the information is found in Chapter 1 of the math textbook.
